Happy 4th of July!! Here in Ghana, Monday, July 1st
was a holiday. We were off work on
Monday to celebrated Republics Day. When
this holiday came around I was very confused because we already celebrated
Ghanaian Independence Day in March. I as
assured though that this was a very different holiday to be celebrated. My understanding is that when Ghana won independence
from England they did not immediately have an elected government. They were ruled under a dictator. Thus, Republics Day celebrates the day they
had their first elections.
Here on campus, the volunteers and I celebrated the 4th
with a BBQ. We had a special meal of
chicken and beef kabobs and all of the other important BBQ sides. It was nice to have a special meal.
