Six weeks in Ghana, and just like that, it’s time to head home!
This has been the longest time I’ve spent in Ghana
since 2013, and what a great experience it has been. From trying something new
by working on the Mercy Ships, returning to Nalerigu to work, and traveling
around the country to visit friends, this trip has been filled with new
experiences, familiar faces, and plenty of memories.
One of the best parts of being back has been spending time with friends, catching up on life, and being reminded of why this country means so much to me. After more than a decade of coming to Ghana, it has become much more than just a place I visit. It’s a place where I’ve built friendships, made memories, and developed connections that keep bringing me back.
As I sit here in Accra, waiting for my flight tonight, I have mixed emotions. On one hand, I’m genuinely excited to go home. Six weeks
is a long time to be away, and there are things I miss about home. I’m looking
forward to familiar comforts, catching up with people, and getting back into my
normal routine.
But leaving Ghana is never quite that simple.
I think that's one of the interesting things about
spending so much time somewhere. You stop feeling like a visitor in quite the
same way. You develop routines, build relationships, and become attached to the
everyday things that make a place what it is.
And then, just when you're feeling settled, it's time to pack your bags and leave again. Six weeks may sound like a long time, but somehow it never feels quite long enough.
For now, it’s time to head home, carrying plenty of
wonderful memories with me and already looking forward to the next visit.
Until next time, Ghana. You’ll always hold a special
place in my heart. ❤️
Thank you for keeping this blog! Stephen, the boys and I really enjoyed following along!
