Children in Ghana are very different then the children in America.  They have to grow up fast here and at a young age are expected to contribute to the family by watching younger children, gathering wood, working in the fields, etc.  They are more respectful of their elders and very well behaved.  They learn to be tough and kids that are very sick tend not to cry or make a fuss, they just sit there very stoic.

Of course there are some ways the kids are the same.  When they can they love to play games and joke with each other.  Their smiles and laughs are beautiful, energetic, and can lighten your day.  And as I have learned . . . they also love to stick things up their noses and in their ears!
Take a guess at what this little one had in her ear??

That is a kernel of corn that I removed, that the father said "flew" into the girls ear while they were harvesting.
