The rainy season has started but it has not been raining
this year as much as it should. The
majority of the people in Northern Ghana are subsistence farmers and they rely
on the heavy rains during just a few months period to raise their crops. When walking around town you can see the toll
the dry weather has had on the crops.
Unlike America where food is stored and plentiful even in drought years,
if there is a low yield from the crops this year many Northern Ghanaians will
go hungry, mostly young children. As it
is, Koko Duu Nutrition Center, which is located next to the hospital, sees too
many cases of malnutrition each year. I
can only imagine how it might be next year.
Please say a little prayer for the rain to come to Northern Ghana . . .
it grows our food (as well as keeps the weather cool!).
